Remote Intervention

In the nuclear field (except in the case of a major accidental for which the resources of the Groupe INTRA were developed) certain case of incident, exceptional maintenance or cleaning and/or decommissioning requires the carrying out of operations of observation, measurement, sample taking, assembly / dismantling equipment, cutting, drilling, handling, etc. , in hostile conditions where human presence is not authorized, or where limited presence is possible.

These operations must then be carried out by using means remotely controlled by operators located out of the hostile zone or behind protection.

An intervention can require:

>  The necessity to transport tools or sensors necessary for the carrying out of tasks in the hostile environment.

>  To carry out different operations by implementing tools or sensors at distance

>  According to the duration of the intervention, duty to insure the maintenance of the equipment

>  To take care after the intervention of the contaminated equipment, as well as of contaminated waste or component parts extracted from the site of intervention.

The preparation of a remote intervention is important for its success.

The technical aspect is as important as the preliminary work at the execution: radiological and dimensional cartography of the environment, the preparation of the environment to facilitate the carrying out of the intervention (to set up biological protection - surveillance camera), operators training and organization of radioprotection.

It would be useful to profit from a remote intervention that is rich in experience in other situations, by the Groupe INTRA or other units which might be confronted by a situation for which the carrying out of an remote intervention is envisaged.

In the same way, when the carrying out of a remote intervention is considered, and finally carried out by operators, it is useful to know the arguments selected which made it possible for operators to carry out the intervention

Expertise of Groupe INTRA..

By the appropriate activities of the robotics intervention group, the Groupe INTRA has an experience of remote intervention which it regularly enriches by frequent contacts with the companies members units responsible for remote intervention for exceptional maintenance operation, or cleaning and/or decommissioning operation, or solving an incident

Groupe INTRA proposes to formalize and organize the principal information concerning remote intervention. It constitutes a knowledge data base which it will be able to exploit in the case of major accident situations, and/or companies’ members units confronted by situations for which an remote intervention is envisaged.

For this mission, the group develops its expertise by survey activity’s on these remote intervention fields and the evaluations of techniques and mobilizable machines in the case of a crisis.

Capitalization and valuation of the knowledge are insured by the management and the exploitation of knowledge data base on the remote intervention in nuclear fields and hostile conditions.

Synthesis of intervention

The Groupe INTRA is in regular contact with the principal companies’ members units concerned by remote interventions. It lists and collects information:

  • Definition of intervention
  • Constraints of the site of intervention
  • Organization - Progress of the intervention
  • Ressources of intervention
  • After the intervention
  • Feedback of experience

The Groupe INTRA realizes these syntheses (Model of the summary of intervention) from the documentation and meets with the responsible of intervention.

All documentation is confidential and is not diffusible.
